Description
Holly House is a 19th-century building constructed of red brick with stone dressings and a slate roof that is hidden behind parapets. The plan is irregular, being partly double and partly single depth due to the constraints of the site. The main elevation is largely obscured by trees. The house has three storeys and three windows, with a right wing that is partly covered by No. 17 Whitecross Street. It features chamfered stone quoins, a keystone, and flat arches, along with two bands at the floor levels. The entrance is located in the third bay and consists of a six-panel door with a hood supported by console brackets. The windows are sash style, with six over six panes, while the second-floor windows are smaller, featuring three over six panes. An additional window is present on the third floor to the right. The building has a moulded cornice and parapet that continue around the wing, although the wing itself does not have quoins. The rear elevation is minimal, as it is obscured by and built against other properties.
The interior was not inspected during the resurvey, but it is reported to have an attractive open-well staircase with a cut string, decorated treads, turned balusters with knops, and a swept pine handrail.
