Description
Kingsley House, located at Nos. 8 and 10 Monk Street, is a 19th-century building with a stucco front that is painted and features a hipped slate roof that is largely hidden from view. It has a double depth plan and consists of two storeys and an attic, with a five-bay elevation for the pair of houses. The first floor has a band and four Ionic pilasters that rise to a cornice at the second floor.
The building has round-headed doorways with 6-panel doors and fanlights. The centre window bays are all blocked, and the second-floor windows are smaller than those on the first floor. The ground floor and first-floor windows are set in arched recesses. The ground floor windows are arched sashes with radiating heads, featuring 6 over 6 panes with a half pane surround. The centre first-floor windows are casements with 8 + 8 panes, while the other first-floor windows are double-hung sashes with 6 over 6 panes and architraves. The second-floor windows have 3 over 3 panes. The building has a parapet and a central stack on the party wall, with blind return walls.
The rear elevation features all 6 over 6 pane sashes, with two for each house and a blind central panel. The interior was not seen during the resurvey.
