Description

This building is a former village hall, now used as a dwelling. It was constructed in a loosely Tudorbethan style. The exterior is primarily red-brown stone, with some black-and-white half-timbering and red tiled roofs. The building follows an L-shape, comprising a single-storey hall range running north-south, with a one-and-a-half-storey accommodation wing attached to the eastern side of the rear. The main entrance elevation faces north. The gable end of the hall features vertical half-timbering in the upper part and includes a gabled porch, mirroring the gable's treatment but on a smaller scale, with low-swept eaves. The porch has a panelled door with a circular window and side-light windows. A range to the left has a wide transomed four-light window on the ground floor, and two gabled dormers in the roof slope, each with half-timbering at a still smaller scale. An addition, sympathetic in style, was added in the 1980s and is attached to the east end.

The south side features the south gable end of the hall, which has half-timbering similar to the north end, but overhanging a wide canted bay window with three tiers of transomed glazing. The east side of the hall and the south side of the accommodation wing have former verandahs, now enclosed with swept-down roofs. The west side of the hall has a projecting gabled bay with a large multi-pane window, and half-timbering to the gable. A pedestalled octagonal ventilator-lantern rises from the roof ridge, topped with a domed lead roof and a weather vane.

Despite conversion to domestic use and the introduction of a split-level floor, the hall retains its original open structure and arch-braced roof trusses, which are ceiled at collar level.
