Description
This is a model farm roundhouse, built in the early 19th century. The building is a single-storey cruciform structure constructed from coursed red sandstone rubble, with a Welsh slate roof. It comprises four wings radiating from a central roundhouse. The wings feature various openings, including some blocked, some reopened, and some new windows, as well as elliptically headed doors and cart doors. One wing has two 3-light timber windows within elliptical heads. The rear of the building is not visible.
The internal spaces are currently being sub-divided using concrete block walls. The wings contain machined queen post roof trusses with raking struts. The central roundhouse is a significant example of early 19th-century carpentry, featuring posts and beams supporting a roof over an octagonal space. This space is defined by diagonal beams, strainers, subsidiary posts, and rafters, all of which appear to be original and unaltered.
