Description

Nos. 9 and 10 Fosterville Crescent are a pair of semi-detached villas built in red brick, featuring caramel coloured terracotta quoins and dressings, and topped with natural slate roofs and red brick stacks. These three-storey houses are elevated over a cellar. The front of each house has paired gables, with one bay for each, and a cross-wing at the rear that includes additional gables.

Each front gable features a two-storey canted bay made of terracotta, with 2 over 1 pane sashes flanked by 1 over 1 panes, although some of the glazing has been altered from the original. The bays are adorned with rusticated pilasters, keystone heads above the sashes, and aprons decorated with bands of stiff-leaf and castellated tops, all crafted in terracotta. The gables also include Venetian windows with small paned glazing, framed in terracotta. The houses have plain bargeboards and cross finials on the gables, steeply pitched roofs with ridge tiles, and a tall brick stack remaining on No. 12.

The returns feature an external stack and single windows at the back. The cross wings have a single sash window facing forward on two floors, with another smaller sash on the second floor, and finials similar to those on the gables. The entrances are located in the angles of the buildings. The rear elevation has not been inspected, and while the house has slightly altered fenestration, it retains a tall chimney. The interior has not been seen during the resurvey.
