Description
14 Monnow Street is a three-storey building with a double depth plan, featuring a street front made of scribed render and a slate roof. The façade has raised surrounds around the windows and includes a full-width shopfront on the ground floor. This shopfront is a fine example from the late Victorian or Edwardian period, with a deep fascia board that has a sunblind above and is flanked by decorative brackets. To the left of the shopfront, there is a recessed doorway, and adjacent to it is a splayed window. The main window faces the street, and the stallriser displays incised and gilded lettering that reads 'The Home and Colonial Tea Stores'.
Above the shopfront, the windows are sashes. On the first floor, there are two hornless sash windows with nine panes each (six panes over three), although the bottom row of panes may be obscured by the shop fascia. The top floor features two hornless sash windows with three panes over three. The low pitch roof is largely hidden from view from the street, and the rear elevation has not been seen. The interior was not observed during the resurvey.
