Description

Fairoaks is a simple gothic two-storey dwelling with two gables, constructed from snecked rubble and featuring lightly dressed quoins. The building has wooden window frames with diamond-lattice glazing and a slate roof that has overhanging eaves and verges, along with bargeboarding topped with apex finials. It includes an axial stone chimney stack with three tall octagonal chimney pots. The layout is T-shaped, consisting of a three-bay main range and a one-bay rear wing.

The main range is asymmetrically gabled and features a central porch that is timber-framed and slate-roofed. The porch has a corbelled semi-circular outer arch and open square-panelled timber detail in the gable, with round-arched openings on the sides, an internal bench, and a half-glazed door. Above the porch, tucked under the eaves, is a very shallow two-light mullioned window.

To the left of the porch is a projected gabled bay that has a cross-window on the ground floor and a bracketed wooden oriel on the first floor, which also features similar glazing and a mono-pitched roof. The bay on the right, which has a raised gable, contains a transomed three-light window on the ground floor and a small two-light mullioned casement on the first floor. Between these two floors is a square plaque carved with a quatrefoil that contains Lord Llangattock's monogram "Ll" and the date 1893. All the windows have ovolo-moulded joinery.

The left gable end features a canted bay window on the ground floor. At the rear, the gable of the rear wing has a transomed three-light window on the ground floor, which was damaged at the time of the survey, and a cross-window above. Both rear angles have modern additions. The interior was not accessible during the inspection, but it likely retains its original plan-form.
