Description
The boundary wall, gatepiers, corner turret, and pavilion of the former gardens at Llantilio Court date from the 18th century. The broad carriage entrance features square gatepiers topped with flat copings and 20th-century wooden gates. To the right, there is a large stone-arched side gate with shallow piers and a semi-circular arch made of ashlar voussoirs, complete with a keystone. Above the doorhead, a large horizontal coping slab projects on dentil blocks, with two recessed tiers of stone blocks above. The wall to the right ramps up to a height of about 3 meters and has flat coping slabs. Adjacent to the churchyard gates on the right, a low linking wall extends on the north side, forming the foundation for a small square pavilion located in the southwest corner of the churchyard. The pavilion has rubble stone walls, a pyramidal tile roof, and a boarded door facing east. The boundary wall to the left of the entrance gates stands approximately 2 meters high and features coping made of alternating tall and low ('hen and chick') stones. At the west corner of this boundary wall, the remains of a circular lookout turret project; the wall survives to a height of about 2.5 meters. Inside the turret, stone stairs on each side curve up to a stone viewing platform. Extending at right angles to the northeast, a 20-meter stretch of wall ramps down in two stages. Immediately next to the lookout turret is an 18th-century ashlar doorcase with a flat head, a moulded cornice, and a boarded door with strap hinges.
