Description

This is a range of Regency-era houses, built in the early 19th century, forming a terrace that steps down the hillside. The walls are rendered, and the roofs are slate, with matching narrow end stacks, many still featuring slate pots. The houses have a double-pile plan, meaning rooms are arranged across the depth of the building, with a rear elevation facing Steep Street, which itself features an additional house. They are three storeys high, generally with two windows visible on each front. Most windows are sash windows, although some have been replaced with casements. The doorways are semi-circular headed, and number 4 is attached to the uphill side of number 1. Number 4 has four-pane windows on the top floor, while the first floor windows are 12-pane sashes, some of which are casements. The front door has been altered and is set within a rusticated surround with radial glazing bars to the fanlight. A ground floor window has also been altered and is now tripartite. A chimney has been removed from this property.
