Description

The gatepiers to St Nicholas's Churchyard are square and stand about 2 meters high. They are constructed from rubble stone with ashlar dressings. Each gatepier features a moulded cap and is topped with a ball finial that rests on a pyramid base. The eastern gatepier has inscribed tablets that commemorate the donation of the iron church gates in memory of Andrew William Waring Pope, who died in 1959, and his wife Nira Pope, who died in 1981. The gates themselves are ornamental wrought iron from the 20th century.
