Description
The churchyard gatepiers, located approximately 12 metres south-west of the porch to the Church of St. Nicholas, date from the late 18th century. They are constructed from ashlar magnesian limestone, which has been repaired with sandstone. Each pier features a moulded plinth and a plain square shaft, with the upper part replaced or possibly heightened by a block of sandstone. This section includes a cornice and a blocking stone topped with a large ball finial that has a band. The gatepiers are accompanied by later wrought-iron gates and an overthrow that are not of special interest. Additionally, an earlier curved iron band with a lantern bracket connects the finials.
