Description
The Angel Inn is a public house, dating back to the 17th century, constructed of painted rubble stone with a slate roof featuring brick end stacks. The symmetrical front elevation is two storeys high. The first floor has three casement windows, each with six over six panes. The ground floor has a central entrance doorway with a flat head and boarded door. Flanking the entrance on each side are segmental arched window openings containing similar six over six casement windows.
A stable range extends to the right and features a first-floor window arrangement of a sixteen-pane hornless sash, a rectangular window with six panes, and a square casement window with eight over eight panes. The ground floor of the stable range includes a cambered headed doorway with stone voussoirs, above which is a four-pane overlight. The top panels of the boarded double doors are glazed, with two panes separated by a horizontal glazing bar. Other features include a two-light casement window in a cambered head, a boarded stable door, and a small segmental arched window opening.
The interior, while extensively altered and having lost a former fireplace and staircase, retains elements from the 17th century. The ground floor shows chamfered ceiling beams with hollow and fillet (Wern-hir) stops. Mortices in the soffit of the headbeam indicate the location of a former post and panel partition.
