Description
21 Nevill Street is a two-storey building with an attic, constructed in a tall rectangular shape that runs parallel to the street. The front is rendered and painted over timber framing, while the side and rear walls are made of stone, topped with a natural slate roof. The building features a continuous jetty at the first floor and has three bays.
The ground floor includes a mid to late 20th-century shopfront, believed to date from around 1956, designed in an 18th-century style with multi-paned windows and a central door. There is a square-headed throughway with doors to the left. On the first floor, there are two large windows with 3 + 3 pane casements, flanked by two smaller 1 + 1 pane casement windows, all set within c1600 stone frames that have ovolo moulded mullions. A modern projecting wrought iron bracket sign is also present. The building has a moulded eaves cornice and a steeply pitched roof featuring a continuous 11-light sloping top dormer, which was added after the building was listed in 1974. No chimney is visible, suggesting it is located on the rear wall.
The rear elevation has modern features and bare stone walls. Inside, the ground floor is modernized, while the first floor showcases seven cross-beams, all with ovolo mouldings and moulded plaster panels in between. The wall posts on the front elevation are visible from the interior. There is a fireplace with a heavy oak lintel and a spiral attic stair made of oak. The roof structure consists of five bays with principal rafters, trenched purlins, and heavy tie-beams.
