Description
The New Court Hotel is a Georgian-fronted inn dating from the 18th century. It consists of a two-unit range, with the main inn on the right and an accommodation block on the left. The building is rendered and painted, featuring a shallow pitch slate roof and low stacks located at the right end and at the division between the two units.
The main unit has a three-window range of 16-pane sash windows with painted surrounds and stone sills. The ground floor mirrors this arrangement on either side of a central panelled doorcase, which includes a round-headed doorway with a four-panelled door. There is a cellar entrance below the window to the right and a plinth at the base. The left unit features 12-pane sash windows in painted surrounds on each floor, along with two four-panelled doors.
Inside the inn, there is a small open fireplace with a timber lintel located at the front left. The bar area boasts high-quality polished woodwork, which is reputedly sourced from a ship. The building has been substantially extended to the rear. A through passage leads from the right doorway of the left unit, with stairs rising off to the hotel rooms on the first floor.
