Description
The structure consists of the piers and southwest abutment of Brunel's railway bridge over the River Wye. The abutment, which is built against the embankment, is made of coursed dressed pale stone and features two tall segmental arches. The central pier includes an impost block, while the outer pair has cornices. The arches are faced with recessed coursed rock-faced local stone, and the angled sides are topped with freestone coping.
The piers are arranged in three groups: there are three pairs of piers in the river and two groups of three single piers on the bank. All the piers are made of metal and painted, featuring metal bands and cushion caps. The river group of piers is connected at the base and reinforced with short columns and metal braces.
