Description
Oxhouse at Llanddewi Court is a farm building constructed from roughly coursed local rubblestone, topped with a stone slate roof, of which only a few courses remain. Most openings on both sides have been altered, and the diamond mullion windows that were present in 1980 are no longer visible. The original double doors for admitting oxen, which still have their wooden loop hinges, remain on the rear wall, although the canopy above them has been removed. Originally, there were a pair of doors on each long side, but one opening was blocked and has since been reopened. A small new addition is present on the left gable, adjacent to the farmhouse. Externally, the only ancient feature remaining is the ox-doors.
Internally, concrete block walls have divided the space into modern rooms, and no old features are visible except for the roof. The traces of a former sleeping loft at one end, noted in 1980, have been removed in the current replanning. The roof consists of four bays with principal rafters, collars, ties, three tiers of trenched purlins, a ridge-piece, and secondary rafters, much of which is original.
