Description

Church Farmhouse is a 17th-century building constructed of painted rubble with Welsh slate roofs. It features an L-shaped layout with a small additional wing from the mid-19th century attached at right angles to the end of the L. The main range, which includes the entrance elevation, appears to be a three-cell baffle entry house with two heated rooms. It stands two storeys tall, and the upper floor may have been raised from a typical 17th-century one-and-a-half storey house found in the area.

The front of the house has three windows: on the ground floor, there are two three-light mullion and transom small-paned casements, with the center window being a two-light casement. The upper floor has three two-light windows, one of which is taller and has a transom. The ground floor windows feature dripmoulds, while the upper floor windows have timber lintels. A gabled porch is located between the center and right-hand windows, featuring imposts to a slightly pointed arch and a slate roof. Above the arch is the Pontypool Park coat of arms. The doorway is positioned against the chimney in the baffle entry layout.

There are two red brick ridge stacks: one behind the doorway for the kitchen and another at the right-hand end for the parlour. The left-hand end lacks a chimney, indicating an unheated dairy. The rear wing has similar windows, including a three-light window with a transom on the ground floor and two-light windows above, with a transom on the left. Another red brick stack is present on the ridge. The later wing features small-paned casements with elliptical heads.

The interior was not available for inspection during the resurvey in December 1996.
