Description
Penuel Scout Hall, formerly known as Penuel Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, is a building constructed with rubble and features painted ashlar detailing. It has a classical facade with a pediment, divided into three sections by giant Tuscan pilasters, which stand on a high painted ashlar plinth. The entablature includes a deep cornice and is arched over the central bay, where a tablet is located beneath a fluted semi-circular pediment. This tablet reads ‘Penuel Calvinistic Methodist Chapel 1865’. The tall outer windows are arched and have moulded architraves with triple keystones. Above the round-arched door, there is a triplet of similar arches. The side elevations are rendered and consist of four bays with tall round-arched windows set in shallow recesses. All the glazing has been replaced with plastic.
Inside, there is a three-sided gallery supported by fluted iron columns, with a timber gallery front featuring long panels. The box pews and pulpit have been removed. The basement still retains an old datestone that reads ‘Penuel Adeiladwyd gan Trefnyddion Calfiniadd 1825. Ailadeiladwyd 1838’.
