Description

The Vestry and Forecourt Railings, built in 1862, is a Baptist Chapel constructed from painted squared Cilgerran stone with a slate roof. It features a gable front with open pedimental bracketed eaves, arched windows, and a door that has recessed stone voussoirs, slate sills, and small-paned glazing. There are two long arched side windows, two narrow small centre lights with marginal glazing bars, and centre double ledged doors topped with a radiating-bar fanlight. The building sits on a raised plinth, with rubble stone side walls that include two long arched sashes on each side, accented by cut stone voussoirs.

The vestry was added in 1908 and is designed in a similar style, featuring two long arched windows with keystones, an arched centre door, and a roundel above. The vestry has three-window sides.

The front railings are set on a rusticated low wall made of Cilgerran stone, which includes end piers and two slate piers at the entry that support double iron gates. The railings are adorned with urns on the main stanchions and spearheads, with a smaller gate located in front of the vestry.

Inside, the chapel has painted grained box pews and a gallery supported by two plain iron columns marked T Thomas, Cardigan. The gallery features curved corners, a coved underside, and a panelled front with planted marginal mouldings rebated at the corners. A clock marked 'Penuel 1863' is present, along with a balustraded great seat and pulpit that has a curved front. There is an arched recess behind the pulpit and an ornate centre roundel on the ceiling, while the rest of the ceiling is plain. The entrance lobby includes a traceried window depicting a dove descending in stained glass, along with some etched and coloured glass in the corners.
