Description

Cilgerran Castle consists of ruins primarily surrounding the inner ward. On the south side, there are two large circular towers from the early 13th century, connected by a curtain wall. To the west, there was an early 13th-century gatehouse, although the outer part has since disappeared. It is believed that the chapel may have been located on the first floor. The western curtain wall, which overlooks the steep drop to the Afon Plysgog, is thought to date from the later 13th century, while the partial remains of a northwest tower may date from the later 14th century. There are also insubstantial remains on the north side, above the River Teifi.
