Description
The war memorial is designed as a ring-headed Celtic cross and dates from the early 20th century. It features a tapering shaft and cross made of white marble with black inclusions and has a rough finish. The arms of the cross are adorned with interlaced circles in relief. The shaft stands on a rectangular base with chamfered upper edges, which bears the inscription 'To the glory of God / and in honoured memory of the men of this parish / who fell in the Great War 1914 - 18', with the names of the fallen listed below. The names of those who died in World War II are inscribed on the east face of the base. This base is supported by a three-tier rectangular plinth made of the same marble, featuring wide steps.
The memorial is set within an enclosure formed by low red brick walls that have chamfered copings and support iron railings. The railings consist of plain widely-spaced uprights and three horizontal rails, with circles on the lower tier. The front wall of the enclosure is concave in shape and includes an entrance approached by splayed steps. Double iron gates, matching the style of the railings, feature dog rails at the base.
