Description
42 Garden Suburbs is a group of six terraced cottages built in pairs, dating from the early 20th century. These two-storey cottages feature pebble-dashed fronts, tiled roofs, and brick chimney stacks. Each pair showcases asymmetrical gables with cambered-headed windows. Many of the original leaded casement windows are still in place, although some have been replaced with similar styles. The gables include four-light windows on the first floor and three-light windows beside the entrances on the ground floor, except for the end cottages, Nos 38 and 48, which have five-light windows on the ground floor. The cottages have gabled hoods over boarded doors, which feature a wave-shaped head with an inset small-pane light. Between each pair of gables are flat-roofed, tile-hung dormers with three-light windows, positioned above splayed bay windows that flank a through-passage. The roofs of these bay windows extend to form a hood over the round-arched entrance to the passage.
