Description
Nos 38-48 Garden Suburbs is a group of six terraced cottages built in pairs, each two stories high. The cottages feature pebble-dashed fronts, tiled roofs, and brick chimney stacks. Each pair displays asymmetrical gables with cambered-headed windows. Most of the original leaded casement glazing is still in place, with some replacements made in a similar style. The gables have four-light windows on the first floor and three-light windows on the ground floor next to the entrances, except for the end cottages, Nos 38 and 48, which have five-light ground floor windows. Each boarded door is topped with a gabled hood that has a wave-shaped head and an inset small-pane light. Between each pair of gables, there are flat-roofed, tile-hung dormers with three-light windows, positioned above splayed bay windows that flank a through-passage. The roofs of the bay windows extend to create a hood over the round-arched entrance of the passage. The cottages have a smoother roughcast finish.
