Description

The Woollen Mill is a symmetrical five-bay, three-storey mill with lower flanking ranges to the north. It is constructed from rubble stone with quoins and features a slate roof. A stone stack with paired shafts is located at the northern end. The openings of the mill have shallow segmental heads, yellow brick dressings, and stone sills. The mill has planked doors and small-pane iron-glazed windows. The eastern front has central doors on all three storeys, which may have been added when the mill was used as a storage depot. The ground floor features enlarged double doors under a concrete lintel, and there is a hoist bracket towards the eaves. The doors are flanked by pairs of windows, with an additional window to the right of the ground floor entrance in the infill of a former doorway. Inside, two ornate iron ceiling roses have been fixed as tie plates. A metal sign reading 'The Woollen Mill' is attached to the left of the front. The southern gable end has two windows, with additional windows in the attic, and a wide doorway to the right under a renewed flat brick lintel. The rear of the mill has windows similar to those at the front.

To the north, there are two adjoining two-storey ranges. The first range is continuous with the mill, while the second is set at a slight angle. The range next to the mill features a tripartite multi-pane window flanked by panelled doors under segmental heads, with voussoirs to the left and brick to the right. There are double doors to the far right under a flat lintel. The upper storey has three windows with 12-pane hornless sashes under segmental brick heads. The northern range has three windows on the lower storey with red brick heads, while the upper storey has four windows. There are wide double doors inserted to the left with a gabled doorway above, and a further gabled door to the upper storey on the right. The northern gable end has two windows in the upper storey and one in the attic, with a door and window offset to the lower right. A small single-storey range is located to the rear of the central range.

At the time of inspection, there was no access to the interior, and it is reported that there is no machinery left, with the wheel having been removed long ago.
