Description

The group consists of three aligned 19th-century chest tombs located in the churchyard of St James in Rudry. The tomb on the northern side features a moulded base, plain angle pilasters, stone slabs on the short sides, and brick on the long sides. Its projecting capstone is engraved with commemorative inscriptions for the Moses family of Rhydygwern, including Ann Moses (died 1844), John Moses (died 1850), and their granddaughter Mary-Jane Moses (died 1871). A later engraving commemorates James Moses (died 1935).

The central tomb also has a moulded base, plain angle pilasters, and a projecting capstone with saddleback coping. On the southern side, there is a commemorative engraving for John Moses (died 1851 aged 6 months) and his mother Jane Moses (died 1852). An additional engraving on the northern side honors her husband John Moses (died 1877).

The southern tomb is similar to the central one, featuring the same moulded base and angle pilasters, along with a projecting capstone that has shallow saddleback coping. On the northern side, there is an engraving for William Moses (died 1855 aged 6 months) and his mother Selina Moses (died 1869). The short eastern face has an added inscription for Martha, daughter of Selina Moses (died 1871), and a similar inscription on the western face for David, son of Selina (died 1881).
