Description
Brynysgawen is a farmhouse with an attached barn and byre range, situated on the uphill side. The farmhouse is rendered and features a concrete tile roof with rooflights and a renewed stack. It has a single storey and attic at the front with replaced windows, and a later, taller two-storey cross wing at the rear. The attached barn range is stepped down and constructed of rubble, partially limewashed, with a stone tile roof that sweeps down over a projecting central bay at the front to create covered pens. There is an unusual steep-pitched roofed porch adjacent to a cross passage that runs outside the farmhouse behind the chimney, featuring a segmental arched entrance. On the downhill side of the structure is the barn bay, which has double doors at the rear left and deep-set rectangular openings to the right, along with a former pentice roof.
Inside, the farmhouse retains three deeply chamfered cross beams with stops, but no joists. There is a chamfered lintel above the fireplace, with stairs beside it. The interior is now a single downstairs room with access to the later wing and a step down to the cross passage. Notably, the porch contains a wall painting in ochres that appears to depict a figure. The barn range features a flag floor, some plaster, and an old slab. The roof of the barn includes a pegged tie beam and struts, along with three rows of trenched purlins.
