Description

Caerllwyn Isaf is a farmhouse with an attached byre and stable, constructed from whitewashed stone rubble and topped with a composite tile roof. The building features corniced rubble end and ridge stacks with yellow brick capping courses and stands two storeys tall. The elevation facing the road includes a small 12-pane casement window located under the eaves, with another window obscured. A hood extends over two 6-pane casement windows on the ground floor. The attached byre range has three doorways with wooden lintels: to the right is the cross passage, in the center is the byre, and to the left is the stable, which shows signs of masonry alterations between the byre and stable.

On the garden-facing side of the original unit, there is a small 6-pane casement window under the eaves, along with two altered ground floor openings, one of which has a hood. At right angles to this is a two-storey wing built around 1900.

Inside the older part of the house, significant remodeling has occurred, including a roof raised in the late 19th century. However, it still retains a spiral staircase to the right of the fireplace. The cross passage, which backs onto the chimney wall, connects to the byre, which has a loft still in use as a cowshed with mangers for tethered cows. The attached stable, which has a straight joint with the byre, features a brick floor and was formerly used for shire horses and as a chaff house. The chaff cutting machinery was previously operated by a horse in the adjacent yard. There are wooden stairs leading to the loft, which has trusses with collar and tie and three rows of trenched purlins.
