Description

The limestone war memorial features a three-sided recess that extends over the river, accessed by four steps from the pavement, with the monument positioned in the center. The walls are adorned with relief swags, and the rear wall displays inscriptions in Welsh on the left and English on the right, honoring the men of Porth and District who lost their lives in the Great War from 1914 to 1918. The front piers facing the road are decorated with relief wreaths. The cenotaph includes a long two-sided inscription panel listing the names of the deceased. Above this panel, between two moulded cornices, is a relief cross encircled by a wreath. The inscription on the right side reads "Our glorious dead," while the left side features the Welsh phrase "Mewn Anghof ni Chant Fod." Additionally, a black marble plaque commemorating those who died in the Second World War has been added to the right. The gates are a later addition.
