Description
The limestone war memorial is located to the south of the Church of St Mary, which is a Grade I-listed building, in the churchyard. It features a plain Latin cross that rises from a simple collar atop a tall, square shaft. The cross shaft is set on a tapering pedestal, which in turn rests on a three-stepped octagonal base. The plinth and the uppermost step of the base have inscriptions carved into the stone.
The main dedicatory inscription on the front face of the pedestal reads "IN GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919." The names of those being commemorated are listed on two faces of the pedestal. Additionally, on the front face of the upper step, there is another inscription that states, "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS. THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS. 'PEACE, PERFECT PEACE.'"
