Description

Sycamore Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1795, as indicated by the date on the north gable tie irons, with later remodelling from the late 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a black glazed pantile roof. The building is two storeys high with attics and has an L-shaped plan, consisting of a double pile range to the east and a two-storey wing to the west.

The east facade has been refronted in the late 19th century on an earlier plinth and is symmetrical with three bays. The outer bays contain tripartite sashes with glazing bars set under segmental rubbed brick arches. The central doorway is framed by a brick porch and features a half-glazed two-leaf door with a moulded brick reveal and segmental head. Above, there is a moulded and dentilled brick cornice with a cast iron balustrade. The central first-floor sash has glazing bars and is set in a segmental headed opening. The gables are parapeted and feature internal chimney stacks, with 2-light attic casements in the gables.

On the south gable of the rear pile, there is a ground floor three-light casement and a first-floor sash with glazing bars, both with segmental heads. The rear pile also has brick dentil eaves. The two-storey range to the west has a steeply pitched hipped roof and features two four-light casements in the south wall, with an entrance door opposite the chimney stack. The ground floor openings have segmental heads and there is a brick dentil eaves course. A catslide roof is present in the north-west angle, and the west wall has a ground floor slatted window that is now partly blocked, along with a four-light first-floor casement.
