Description
The bridge over the Dock Feeder Canal is a Grade II listed structure featuring heavy abutments made of rock-faced coursed brown stone, with a parapet constructed from slightly smaller blocks. At the decking level, there is a smooth dressed blocking course. The parapet returns at the corners of the bridge to create refuges, which are likely built from the parapet wall to the former approaches. The span of the bridge is slightly set back from the abutments, with buttresses located on the east and west sides of the southern abutment. The bridge has rounded rock-like coping stones on the span and refuges, while flat coping stones are used on the approaches. Currently, the bridge is accessed by steps instead of the original ramped approach, and it features modern brick decking. The canal is spanned by six parallel I-beams, which are connected by transverse tie rods. The flanges of the I-beams support shallow brick arches that hold the decking. Beneath the bridge on the northern side of the canal, there is later stone infill that blocks the towpath and supports the bridge.
