Description

Crichton House is a building that stands four storeys tall, with two additional storeys in the attic, and features five bays, of which the three central bays are slightly recessed. It is constructed from pale channelled banded limestone and has a slate roof. The building has recently been re-glazed. The hipped roof includes two tiers of attics; the upper attic has three tripartite dormer windows with triangular pediments, while the lower attic features three similar windows in a slate-hung central area flanked by two low towers in banded masonry, each with a circular window.

On the third floor, above a modillion cornice, the three middle bays contain tripartite windows, with the central window flanked by small Doric pilasters. The end bays have narrower windows. The first and second floors display a similar window treatment. On the second floor, the central three windows have panelled aprons adorned with laurel garlands, while the end windows feature carved relief aprons depicting a sailing ship and a rail truck. The first floor's central three windows have shallow aprons with small garlands.

The banded ground floor includes triangular pedimented entrance doorways with hollow jambs at the end bays, with three windows situated between them. Inscriptions reading 'Crichton House' and 'Bank' are located above the doorways, and 'The Capital and Counties Bank. Est. 1834.' is displayed between the windows. Simple railings at ground level are decorated with laurel garlands, and the building has a plinth made of grey granite.
