Description

126 Bute Street is a three-storey building with a splayed stucco front and four window bays. It features a projecting cornice. The second floor has an almost square window with large pane horned sashes and stone sills, although the second window from the left has been replaced by a large clock. The first floor windows also have horned large pane sashes, with architraves and cornices above them. There is a blocking course at the sill level. On the ground floor, to the right, a window has been converted from a former doorway and features a bracketed cornice. To the left, there is an early Victorian style shopfront with a central recessed doorway flanked by small pane shop windows. The ends have classically inspired pilasters, and there is an entablature above with an architrave. At the rear, there is a large later 19th-century T-shaped range of connecting warehouses made of grey rubble with red brick dressings. This range is three storeys high, with camber-headed windows featuring small pane glazing, tall loading bays, and a modern corrugated roof covering, along with modern red brick gable ends. There is also a smaller two-storey range to the east, parallel with the south arm of the 'T', which has been adapted for use as stores and galleries for the Industrial and Maritime Museum.
