Description
Hendre'r-ywydd Uchaf Farmhouse is a timber-framed single storey house and outbuilding, featuring a common roofline covered with wheat straw thatch. The structure is built over a five bay cruck framework, with the walls panelled in wattle-and-daub and finished with a limewash.
The north-east elevation of the house includes a doorway with a shaped head and two mullioned windows, one with four lights and the other with five lights. The outbuilding is divided into two sections by a cruck-truss, each having its own separate doorway, with the one closest to the house being lower. There are also two window openings in the south-west wall. The outer walls of both the house and outbuilding have some timber-framing that has been partly renewed, and the wood mullioned windows have renewed mullions, along with some shaped door heads. The rear wall of the house features a four-light window and two shuttered openings for the hayloft at the lower end.
The house has had earth floors reinstated according to the description of the donor. The thatched roof, made of wheaten straw, has been renewed and features an underthatch of oak rods supported by riven oak stakes.
