Description
Cefn Farmhouse, including the attached farm range, is a 1½-storey timber-framed house dating from the 18th century. It features a slate roof and a central rebuilt brick chimney stack. The timber framing consists of three tiers of roughly square panels with rendered infill, resting on a brick and rubble-stone sill. The windows are in an early 20th-century style, with small-pane glazing and metal casements. The central entrance has a boarded door located within an added timber-framed porch.
To the right of the entrance, which comprises the hall and parlour, there are 3-light and 2-light windows, along with a gabled 2-light dormer. To the left of the entrance is a solid rendered wall with a 3-light window and an added 2-light dormer. Further to the left, housing the former byre, the timber-framing has been partly rebuilt and features three 2-light windows and an added 2-light dormer.
On the right gable end, both storeys have two 2-light windows, and there is a glazed diamond panel in the gable. The rear of the house has three skylights, with a 2-light window to the left illuminating the dairy, and a rendered lean-to to the right. To the right of the chimney stack, there is a 2-light window at an intermediate level for a stair, followed by two additional 2-light windows in each storey. The left gable end of the house is weatherboarded and has a lean-to canopy against an outbuilding that is attached at right angles to the corner of the house. This outbuilding is also weatherboarded, with a corrugated iron left gable end and rear, set on a rubble-stone plinth. It faces the yard and the front of the house, featuring a boarded door to the right and double weatherboarded doors to the left under a lower roof line.
Inside, a single cruck truss is visible, partly embedded within the masonry of the stack. The hall to the right of the lobby entrance has a timber lintel over the fireplace and spine beams with stepped stops. A box-framed partition separates the hall from two inner rooms. The room to the left of the entrance has a timber-framed partition with brick nogging, distinguishing it from the former cow house, which is at a lower level. The outbuilding includes a single reused cruck blade in its three-bay roof.
