Description

Cilewent Farmhouse is a 18th-century traditional Welsh longhouse with stone rubble walls, the front of which is whitewashed. It features stone tile gabled roofs, with a stone stack on the northern gable end of the main wing and another on the western gable end of the rear wing. The layout includes a cow-house, stable, and the front wing of the house sharing a common roofline, while the rear wing is lower.

On the eastern elevation, from north to south, there is an unglazed mullioned opening at ground floor level with a gabled loft window above, followed by the main square-headed entrance for both the house and cow-house, which is marked with the date '1734'. Next is a small window opening to the cow-house and a square-headed entry to the stables. The south gable end features a loft door and shows two different types of stonework. The rear elevation has a small window and another similar one in the north gable, while the dairy has a window only on the north side. A large stack is also present.

In the yard, there is a single-storey peat house with a stone tile gabled roof, as well as sheep pens, which are suitable additions to the farmhouse.

Inside, the cow-house and stable contain two cruck trusses. The floor is partly earth and partly paved with pebbles, and there is an opening in the west wall for manure exit, along with a feeding passage and house featuring a stone-pitched floor. The house has timber-framed partitions, with front and rear ground floor rooms that include stopped and chamfered ceiling beams and a fireplace bressumer. A staircase with a small window is located on the north-west side of the fireplace in the front wing.
