Description
The Gas Holder at British Gas Grangetown Works is a Grade II listed structure featuring a shallow domed crown. At its circumference, there are brackets with wheels that run on vertical rails, which are attached to a supporting framework. This framework consists of two tiers, each made up of 16 cast-iron Doric columns. These columns support panelled entablature blocks with cornices, designed in the style of 15th-century Florentine architecture. The columns in the upper tier are slightly slimmer than those in the lower tier, and they support lighter, narrower entablature blocks. Additionally, there are lattice girders between the columns at the entablature level of both tiers, along with x-shaped cross-bracing between the columns on both levels.
