Description
The former Cardiff and District Western District Sewerage Pumping Station is a building constructed of yellow brick with red brick dressings, banding, and an eaves cornice. It features stone kneelers and copings, slate roofs with glazed ridge ventilators, and small pane metal glazing. Facing Penarth Road, the main block has six round-headed windows with red brick arches. Thin pilasters flank the three right-hand window bays and extend above the eaves as chimneys. To the right, there is a lower block with a gabled end. Below the main block, there are modern extensions that imitate its style and materials.
The left end wall includes one large and two smaller round-headed windows. Above the large window is a lunette window with a pediment and an oculus above it, flanked by chimneys. The right end has a similar design, featuring two windows with lunettes above a doorway on the left and two windows on the right. At the rear, there are two attached blocks at a right angle, designed in a similar style, with five blocked windows on the northeast side. The gables facing southeast each have a group of four windows at the upper level. To the southwest, there is an attached lower parallel range with three arched windows and a red brick chimney, along with a lower block that has three camber-headed windows.
A date stone from 1907 is located on the west corner of the south elevation, but it was inaccessible during the inspection. The main block contains steel roof trusses, a glazed brick dado, terrazzo floors, and a travelling crane. The rear blocks also have steel roof trusses.
