Description
52-62 Charles Street is a three-storey terrace of six Italianate houses, each with two windows, currently used for commercial purposes. The buildings feature a bracketed cornice and a parapet. On the second floors, there are two camber-headed windows with stucco hoods, although the hoods are missing at No 60, and they have 4-pane sash glazing, which is also lost at No 60. The first floors have tall sash windows beneath bracketed cornices, along with balconies that have convex iron frontals; the sash glazing is missing at No 60. The ground floors contain doorways with round-arched overlights, flanked by windows that have Venetian-derived cornices but simpler glazing. At No 60, the ground floor has been rearranged to feature a central doorway flanked by windows, all under a classically derived fascia. No 62 is slightly set forward and has a two-storey splayed bay window on the left. On the right, there is an open porch with quatrefoil banding on the parapet, supported by columns with annulets and foliage capitals.
