Description

Briwnant Farmhouse is a small farmhouse with an adjoining farm range, built in three sections. The structure is made of limewashed stone rubble and features a Welsh slate roof with brick end stacks for the house and a corrugated roof for the farm range. The house has a single storey and an attic, with a three-window arrangement of 6-pane casements; the upper storey windows extend above the eaves. The ground floor includes a central doorway and two small openings at the rear. There is a lean-to kitchen wing attached to the house.

The farm range consists of three separate builds used as stables. The section closest to the house likely served as a former byre, while the central four-bay section appears to have been a small barn, characterized by slightly battered walls and boulder footings. This barn features a former double door and a blocked ventilator slit, with both units having outward-facing doorways and windows with timber lintels, as well as additional openings facing the farmyard to the west. The outermost unit, likely a stable, has segmental arched openings and a pitching door in the gable end.

Inside the house, the main room retains an open fireplace with a timber lintel and a single cross beam in the northern room. The former stairs have been renewed, and there is a blocked stair window. Two small rooms off the main area have door surrounds from the 18th to early 19th century, with one featuring a boarded door and the other a panelled door. Upstairs, A-frame trusses are visible. The outer unit of the farm range has a cobble floor with channels that indicate an earlier arrangement and a former loft.
