Former depot school at Maindy Barracks

The former depot school at Maindy Barracks is a symmetrical two-storey building constructed from snecked rock-faced Pennant sandstone, featuring freestone banding and a cornice. The slate roof is set behind coped gables supported by moulded kneelers, with stone stacks located on the rear roof slope and in the right-hand end wall. The front elevation consists of 19 bays, including two taller bays at each end that are topped with advanced gables. The upper storey is slightly set back behind a balcony that has iron railings supported on corbels.

The openings on the front have been replaced but maintain the original configuration, while the rear retains some small-pane sash windows. Each bay contains paired openings. The central bay serves as a passage with segmental arches on both storeys. On either side of the central bay, there are two doorways that are equally spaced. The two-bay end gables feature recessed doorways in the inner bays, topped by single windows, with outer windows positioned under relieving arches.

On the right-hand end wall, there is a bay window with a stack rising from behind the coped parapet. The left-hand end wall includes two lower-storey windows and one upper-storey window. The rear elevation features paired windows in the end gables, set under relieving arches on the upper storey. The right-hand gable has an upper storey projection supported by cast iron columns, while the left-hand gable has a single-storey projection on its right side with a single sash window on the side walls. Between these projections are three equally spaced full-height projections, each containing two sash windows in the side walls (some of which are blocked), and similar windows to those on the front.
