Description
The Barry Hotel is a three-storey building with an attic, featuring a high corner bay and large dormers. Constructed from red brick with bathstone dressings, it has slate roofs and brick chimneys, and predominantly horned sash glazing. The hotel displays a heavy bracketed cornice and a frieze of balusters between the first and second floors. There is a basement area enclosed by iron railings. The polygonal corner boasts a high pavilion roof with paired windows on the top three floors. At ground level, there is a balcony supported by heavy stone corbels and panelled piers with floral capitals, along with three entrance doorways that have segmental overlights.
The elevation facing Broad Street features three large dormers with bathstone pediments and pinnacles, paired windows, and cast-iron cresting between the dormers. The facade includes four groups of three windows and one group of two windows, with the second, third, and fourth bays having two-storey splayed bay windows. A baluster frieze encircles the building at this level. On the right side, there is a lower two-storey block with three windows, a balustraded parapet, brick pilasters, and steps leading up to a doorway on the left, with a splayed corner and a doorway on the right. The elevation on Windsor Road is designed in a similar style but has only two dormers and two bay windows.
