Description

The Wynnstay Arms Hotel is a three-storey building with an attic, featuring a two and three bay front that combines two separate structures, with the right-hand section stepped forward. The exterior is finished in whitewashed brick, topped with a half hipped slate roof and dentilled eaves. It has four gabled dormers, which are broader in the center, each fitted with small pane casement windows and decorative timberwork. The first and second floors primarily feature horned sash windows, while a two-light casement window is located above the porch.

On the ground floor, there is a square-headed carriage entry to the left, and to the right, a lean-to canopy connects a splayed bay with French windows. Beyond this is a Doric porch, which has modern piers and glazed sides, and was formerly topped with an iron balustraded parapet. A datestone is positioned at the top right corner of the building, next to a now disused rainwater head. The rear of the building is constructed of rubble and partially slate hung, with a visible vertical joint near the center that corresponds to where the front steps forward. The gables feature three bays and a variety of window types.

At the rear, there are complicated ranges that adjoin, including a modern connecting block to a gabled cross range with two windows overlooking the drive, which features a deep splayed bay dating from around 1900. There is also a slightly taller range behind with a cross gable that includes a high semicircular arch and a bellcote on the roof.

Inside, the hotel retains segmental arched openings in the ground floor hall area, which have panelled soffits and deep impost bands, along with a dado rail. Some chamfered beams are present in the low ceiling, and there is a simple dog-leg staircase.
