Description
The east precinct wall at Ewenny Priory is a significant structure dating from the medieval period. It is a straight section of wall that connects the former southeast gatehouse, which has been converted into a columbarium, to the southeast corner of the Priory churchyard. Constructed from stone rubble, the wall features two rows of putlogs. At the northeast, it serves as the eastern wall of an enclosure that is the private cemetery for the Picton Turbervill family, who are the occupiers of Ewenny Priory. The northeast return of the wall borders the north side of the private cemetery and the south side of the churchyard. This section includes battlements with arrow loops and a wall walk, all designed on a much smaller scale than those found to the west of the church. Additionally, there is a low stretch of footing that connects to the ruined north transept at the northeast corner.
