Description
Church Hall House, formerly known as the Cory Institute, is a two-storey building designed in the Arts and Crafts style. It features a tower and a house to the west. The structure is built from coursed liassic rubble and has a red tiled roof with overhanging eaves. The roof is complemented by red brick stacks that have corbelled caps and a string course.
The upper floor of the tower is rendered and topped with a swept pyramidal roof that includes a finial and a weather-vane. The upper portion of the east gable is adorned with clay tile-hanging and a band of fish-scale tiling. The building has brick stacks as well.
The first floor of both the tower and the house features cross-frame windows, while the house also has similar architraves and a prominent 5-light camber-headed window. The entrance to the tower is round-headed, with voussoirs and imposts, leading to boarded doors. The east gable displays an exposed red brick stack flanked by multi-paned casement windows, which have red brick dressings and gauged arches above them. The west end of the building has a splayed bay with similar glazing, and the roof slopes down low behind it, featuring a hipped roof that projects over a tall window that steps down to the rear. The interior was not inspected.
