Description
The Cory Family Chest-Tomb, located at the Parish Church of St Nicholas, is an early 20th-century tomb made of grey Quarella stone, designed in the High Gothic Revival style. It features trefoil-headed arcading on the sides, with five blind panels, the central panel displaying the Cory coat of arms and the inscription "Virtu Sempre Viridis." The capitals are adorned with stiff leaf foliage, while the spandrels feature stylised foliage and berries. A frieze of stylised Tudor roses and acanthus foliage runs along the tomb. The top is pitched and hipped, with moulded ribs. This tomb commemorates John Cory (1828-1910), his wife Anna Marie (1836-1909), and their children Clifford and Florence. It is surrounded by a chamfered curb.
