Description

The Sweetings is a building with attached barn and stable range to the west, dating back to the 17th century. The structure features rendered stone walls and a slate roof, with three chimneys along the ridge. The south front has four windows across two storeys, with six-pane sash glazing and a door located in the second bay. The north elevation includes a two-storey gabled wing from the 20th century, which has a three-light window on the first floor and an entrance door on the ground floor. To the left of this wing is a broad ground floor window, and to the right, a broad first floor window. There is also a single-storey lean-to extension on the ground floor that features a reused three-light stone mullioned window.

To the west, there is an in-line barn, byre, and stable range that has origins in the 17th century, although the front wall has been rebuilt and the structure is at a lower level than the main house. The western end of the barn is in ruins, but the rear wall retains original ventilation slits and a round-headed doorway with a plank door. Some of the original roof structure is still present in the stable, repurposed to support a hay loft.

Inside, there are two original back-to-back fireplaces with stop-chamfered lintels, and a winding stone stair located at the rear of the chimney. At the foot of the stairs is a camber or Tudor-headed doorframe. The west wall contains stubs of chamfered beams, and there is a principal rafter above the stairwell.
