Description

Parc Mawr is a two-storey house with an attached stable and barn, dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. The house is oriented north-south, with the main block at the southern end. A shallow wing was added to the west, and a longer wing to the east. The house and east wing are cement-rendered and painted white, with a graded stone tile roof. Original stone end stacks are present on the main house and east wing. Casement windows have been inserted into earlier openings.

The south gable end has a small stair projection with a stair light to the left, and the west wing further to the left. The original south doorway in the west wing is now partially blocked and replaced with a window. A window in the west gable end of the west wing has a wooden lintel bearing the date 1690 in the soffit; this may have been re-used from an original roof truss. A lean-to addition has been added to the north side of the west wing, incorporating the main doorway to the house. A small pantry window has been inserted on the north side of the main house.

On the south side, the east wing projects beyond the gable end of the main house and has one window in the lower storey and two windows above. A conservatory has been added to the north side of the east wing, built against the wall of the main house.

The stable and barn form a continuous range of rubble sandstone, painted white, with a corrugated iron roof. Facing the yard is a blocked opening, which was originally the entrance to the house. To its left is the stable, with a doorway under a timber lintel. A central corrugated-iron lean-to and a narrower lean-to to the left, originally a pig sty and now of rubble stone and corrugated iron roof, flank an inserted doorway under a timber lintel leading to the barn. A vent strip is in the north gable.

Inside, the hall has roughly chamfered cross beams without stops. A stone partition wall separates the hall from what is now the kitchen. The hall retains a lintelled fireplace with an inserted bread oven, flanked by boarded doors to two staircases. To the right is a turning stone stair to the upper storey, and to the left a 18th-century stop-chamfered door frame leading to a stone cellar stair beneath the east wing. A second, wooden stair to the upper storey is located above the cellar stair and is accessed from the east wing. The roof of the main house is a three-bay structure with chamfered principals carried on stub bearing plates. It is said that the wings retain similar roof trusses.

The stable and barn have a five-bay roof with rough trusses and a stone partition separating the stable and barn.
