Description

The Senghenydd War Memorial is a clock tower made of pink granite, situated on a square plinth and surrounded by late 20th-century brick kerb and railings. The base features polished granite panels on three sides that honor those who died in the First World War, with their names engraved in gold-painted letters. The tall pedestal includes a tablet on the west side that notes when the monument was erected. On the north and south sides, there are inscriptions in both English and Welsh, along with an additional plaque on the south side that commemorates the dead from the Second World War. Below the clock, the pedestal is adorned with stylized leaf capitals in low relief. The round clock faces extend above a moulded cornice and are set within panels that have low-relief interlace designs at the corners. At the top, a cast iron finial features scrolled arches pointing in the cardinal directions, from which lamps were originally hung for gas lighting.
