Description
The War Memorial is a clock tower constructed from Anglesey granite, featuring a rock-faced main section and ashlar at the top clock stage and cap. It has a square plan with chamfered angles, consisting of a plinth, shaft, and clock stage. The plinth and shaft are rock-faced and cut back at the leading angles. The main front includes a recessed bronze plaque with a dedication to those who died in the 1914-18 war, presented in both Welsh and English, and features a recessed gilded cross above. Below this, there is an additional bronze plaque commemorating 19 men who were killed in the 1939-45 war. The north and south sides display smaller inset bronze rectangular plaques listing the names of 46 men who died in the First World War. At the rear, there is a painted ledged door that likely provides access to the clock mechanism. The ashlar clock stage is set back and features a coved plinth, four round clock faces, and laurel pendants on each chamfered angle. Above are moulded pediments and an ogee square dome adorned with fishscale carved bands, topped with a bronze cross. At ground level beneath the south face, there is a slate plaque dedicated to a soldier of the Welch Guards who was killed in Scotland on 24 February 1981.
